10 Different Uses of Honey

Honey, known for its sweet taste and the ability to soothe sore throats is also an ingredient in many of your favorite foods. Honey can be used as a substitute for sugar or syrup, but it is also found in sauces, barbecue sauce, dressings and in cosmetics!
We’ve compiled a list of some of the most popular ways honey can be used. Read on to find out all the different uses of honey!

1. Cooking

It also makes an excellent addition to sauces and glazes just before serving because it does not break down when heated.  

2. Breakfast Foods

Honey is a great substitute for table sugar or honey in cereals, oatmeal and granola bars. It can also be added to fruit smoothies for a boost of honey flavor!

3. Preserving Fruits and Vegetables

While honey does not preserve fruits and veggies as long as sugar, honey can be used to help preserve produce by coating slices of fruit or vegetables and allowing them to fully dry before packaging. This creates a natural barrier that will prevent moisture from entering the finished product.

4. Sourcing Local Honey

Honey can also just be locally sourced “honey” found at your local shop. To boost honey production, beekeepers are beginning to make agreements with various vendors to place hives at grocery stores, farmers markets and honey festivals. Be sure to ask your local beekeeper where honey at your grocery store is sourced from!

5. Cosmetics

6. Alcohol

Honey can also be used as a sweetener for alcoholic drinks such as honey whiskey and honey wine.

7. Caramel Surprise

Honey has a low boiling point which means that if you heat honey too long it will burn and turn into a honey caramel. This means it won’t be suitable for cooking or baking, but will still taste good!

8. Tea

Stash teas can actually produces honey, honey ginger and honey lemon flavored teas. These use honey as one of the ingredients- very cool!

9. Baking

Honey is a sweet ingredient that can be used as a substitute in baked goods such as cookies, muffins and cakes when additional liquid is needed. It makes a great substitute for sugar in baked goods such as honey cake, honey cookies and honey muffins. Yum!

10. Endless Uses

The uses of Honey are really endless! We’ve seen honey even used to help cure sore throats!
