Universal Studio’s Halloween Horror Nights 2021 Review!

Have you been to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights yet? It’s amazing! I purchased a Frequent Fear Pass this year so I could check out all the houses multiple times. Here’s a review on what I think so far!

Wicked Growth House

Haunted Houses

Halloween Horror Nights has 10 houses this year. They are all pretty cool, but some I liked more than others. If you want to check out some videos, this is a great Youtube channel that features walkthroughs on the houses: Ordinary Adventures

The Wicked Growth, Realm of the Pumpkin: This house was beautiful inside- also smelled delightfully like pumpkin- but real pumpkin, not pumpkin spice. There were some good scares. At one point you “walk through’ pumpkin guts which is really cool. I definitely want to do this house again.

The Haunting of Hill House: This house is not for the faint of heart. The first time I went in I was by myself and I ended up grabbing onto the backpack of a stranger because it is PITCH black in areas. The hallways are twisty turny inside. That being said- it is awesome! It is super scary and I loved it. This is one of my top houses. It’s very true to the Netflix show so it helps if you’ve seen it recently

Beetlejuice: This house is not scary- more like a walk through of the movie. The characters are wearing masks inclding Beetlejuice and Lydia, so it does take you out of it a bit, but I really did enjoy this the first walk through. The second time I walked through, we barely saw any scareactors, so it was a bit of a miss. However, that can happen!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: We did this house at the end of one of our nights so it was pretty empty. It had a definitely odor- and not pleasant! My brother said he said glass jars on the ground half filled with “pee” so I believe that is what the odor was supposed to be. I had some really good scares in this house. It was a LOT of chainsaw noises, hence the name, so if you’re sensitive to that, it lives up to it’s name- chainsaw noises and some gore!

The Bride of Frankenstein Lives: I did this house last year when they released two houses and once this year. I haven’t really enjoyed it either time- but I think I need to give it another chance because I’ve seen it on some people’s list as their favorite houses. Ordinary Adventures also has a great walkthrough of this house!

Halloween Horror Nights ICONS: Captured: I love this house! It has icons from past Horror nights like the Director, Chace, the Storyteller, and JACK! It’s so good! Definitely one of my favorite houses. You visit scenes from their “stories.” There was also a very fragrant coffin scene- so many roses and it smelled amazing!

Puppet Theatre: This house was very cool. I missed some scares, so I definitely want to do this house again. You walk through an old theater and encounter a lot of old creepy Puppets. There are various hidey holes where they pop out. I love the aesthetics and costumes of the scareactors in this house.

Welcome to Scarey: Horror in the Heartland: We were a little rushed through this house, so I’d like to do it again just to see more details. We were rushed, but we also got held up at 2 random points. One point during a butcher shop scene and the scareactor was great! He was wearing a varsity athlete jacket/ striped shirt and a very creepy doll mask. The attire in the house looked vaguely 1950’s. I’m looking forward to going to thsi house again!

Revenge of the Tooth Fairy: I went to this house last year and this year and I really enjoyed it. It doesn’t have a lot of scares per say, but the house itself is really cool inside and has a really cool story.

Case Files Unearthed Legendary Truth: I also loved this house. We did this house the first night and again another night. It has a great story AND good scares. There’s a really cool nightclub scene

Other Shows

Halloween Horror Nights has two other shows which I haven’t seen yet!

Marathon of Mayhem, Carnage Factory: This is the new water show that includes water and light tricks/ sound and video features. I have caught bits and pieces of this but I’d like to see the whole thing.

Halloween Nightmare Fuel: This show is on the Fear Factor stage and features pyro, fire and aerial performances. It looks really cool!

Food

Special events at Universal are famous for their special food and treats!

They have several stands throughout the park with Halloween goodies to try. I’ve only managed to try a Vegan Reuben so far at the Hell’s Tea Party Sandwiches Booth. They also had a “Poison Tea Party” at that Booth . The description from the booth says it is “made with Myers original dark rum with Honest Tea, half tea and half lemonade, blue curacao, huckleberry, lemon, a dash of allspice bitters- then topped with dehydrated orange” Definitely sounds dangerous to me!
